Job Search Workshops Program (JSW) English

The goal of the JWS program is to facilitate the employment of eligible new immigrants by familiarizing them with effective job-search practices and techniques in Canada in a culturally appropriate manner and setting. The program equips and empowers un-employed and under -employed newcomers by providing them with effective tools, skills, hands-on experience and on-going supports needed to succeed in finding meaningful employment in Ontario as soon as possible.

The program provides 3-day workshops free of charge to the participants. Program staff work closely with newcomers who are facing employment challenged to develop their job search skills and to help them find jobs in their chosen fields.

Eligible clients include: 

• Permanent Residents, Live in Caregivers

• Conventional Refugees

• Un/underemployed clients ready, willing and able to Work

Program Services include but are not limited to: 

• Orientation to the Canadian Labour Market

• Information about prospective Employers and the hidden job market

• Self-Assessment of Skills

• Developing Winning Resumes & Cover Letters

• Developing effective Interviewing Skills

• Tapping into Hidden Job Market

• Ongoing Follow-up and Support

• Job Leads and job board Postings

• Free Access to Computers, Printers, telephones, Fax Machines, Photocopiers

• Internet Access

• Networking

• Developing cold calling skills

• Personal Branding

• Job maintenance

• Assistance with credentials assessment and counselling

• Workers’ Rights and Employment Standards

• Week-end Computer Classes

• Networking and Techniques for Contacting Employers
