Aquatic Certification Training Program and Explore Brampton Youth Pass.



Free Assessment for Aquatic Certification Training Program for Individuals age 14 & Older. Hurry!


The city of Brampton is inviting individuals 14 years and older to participate in a swimming assessment to evaluate their swimming ability and determine eligibility into their certification program. Successful candidates will be eligible to receive their aquatic certification courses completely free. Aquatic certifications can lead to consistent and fulfilling employment with the City as a lifeguard or swim instructor.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 14

  • A strong swimmer

  • The desire to help others and teach lifesaving skills

What to Expect at Your Assessment

Participants will be asked to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Stroke evaluation (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke and lifesaving kicks)

  • Endurance swim (timed 400 metre swim)

  • Object recovery (8 foot depth)

Please come prepared to complete your assessment in the pool with the following items:

  • Proper bathing attire

  • Googles

Qualifying Aquatic Certification Courses

  • Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid

  • Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid

  • Lifesaving Society Swim, Lifesaving and Emergency First Aid Instructors

  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool Option)

Explore Brampton Youth Pass:

Youth ages 12 to 16 years old are invited to apply for an Explore Brampton Youth Pass for an opportunity to access free Transit services and Recreation drop-in programs from July 1 to September 5, 2022.

Priority will be given to vulnerable youth, through the Active Assist program, the Region of Peel’s Affordable Transit Program, the Region of Peel’s (ROP) Neighbourhood Information Tool, referrals from school guidance counsellors, and via youth serving providers and outreach. Applications are now being accepted online, there are limited number of passes, so youth are encourages to apply as soon as possible.
